I'm seriously considering purchasing the new Mac-Mini. Ultimately I am in Apple's target demographic of devout PC users who are considering in dabbling in Macs but are standoffish about the price of Macs. The Mini is essentially a stripped down G4. Few expansion slows for upgrades, but it weighs in at a slim 2.9 pounds and isn't much bigger than a cigar box. My biggest gripes include only 256 megs of RAM on the base model, which isn't bad, but may make OSX run a little slower. Also, Apple is releasing Panther soon, and an upgrade (about 75 bucks I think) to 512 megs of RAM is going to be pretty necessary to run it smoothly. No keyboard, mouse or monitor on this model either. But if you're a pc user you already have that stuff. Mini is compatible with existing USB driven peripherals. You can tack on a Apple mouse and keyboard for about 60 bucks. You can also upgrade to Bluetooth and Airport Extreme if you really like the idea of running wireless internet and peripherals, but it's not completely up my alley. If money was no object, however, I wouldn't mind running bluetooth to my home theater system, and bumping Itunes on my speakers. Mini is definitly geared towards becoming a media console. I wonder if I'll ever get used to using the Apple one-button mouse.
